Summarizing
A summary is usually two to three sentences in your own words that summarizes the passage.
I like to ask theses questions to help me summarizes non-fiction:
Who?
WHat?
When?
Where?
Why?
How?
Now, you will not always answer all of these questions when summarizing, but it helps to get your mind to lead to summarizing.
Main Idea and Details are also apart of this unit.
Main Idea is usually stated in the passage. Details are also sentences from the text that support the main idea.
Main Idea is different from summarizing because Main idea and details are usually stated in the text, while summarizing will be in your own words.
